Highlights of this cruise:

Athens (Piraeus), Greece
Occupied since 3000 BC, Athens has a rich history intended to be unearthed by all who visit. Hadrian's Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Theater of Dionyssos, famed as the finest concert hall in Greece, must be explored. Another "must do" is to tour the interior of the Acropolis and museum.

Rhodes, Greece
Sailing into this port two millennia ago, you would have been stunned by the guardian 100-foot Colossus of Rhodes. Then as now the sun would likely have been shining, as Rhodes is said to have more fine days than anywhere else in Europe. Today diverse historical influences are evident in an old town remarkably intact - in particular the medieval presence of the Knights of St John, who occupied the island as a bastion of Christendom against the Turks. They left behind a turreted gateway citadel, and a fortified palace complete with crenellated walls, moat, and drawbridges.

Safaga, Egypt
Safaga is a gateway to the fabulous ancient temples of Luxor, with their massive columns and statues, and intriguing hieroglyphics, as well as the Pharonic tombs in the Valleys of Kings and Queens. It is the ancient Thebes, the glorious city of the god Amun-Ra, whose Great Temple at Karnak was begun by Ramses II in the 14th century BC. In the arid and empty landscape on the west bank of the Nile, lies the necropolis of Egypt's ancient rulers, its many tombs cut into natural limestone deposits. Inside them paintings and carvings on ceilings and walls contain symbolic and ritual meanings, and an air of mystery.

Muscat, Oman
An important trading port between East and West since the first century, Muscat's influence once extended as far as East Africa and Zanzibar. While much of the city's construction is new, it all displays traditional Arabic stylistic elements, creating a handsome and cohesive whole that incorporates a rich history. Two seemingly invincible mountainside forts from the 1500s flank the palace of the sultan, though today they are both museums. A major highlight is the Muttrah Souq, Muscat's oldest market. Colorful and bustling, it is a fascinating place to browse, as well as to bargain for exotic spices, traditional handicrafts, or gold and frankincense.

Fujairah, United Arab Emirates
The UAE is a federation of seven separate emirates, each with its own sheikh, and an incredibly diverse population, only 20% of whom are true Emiratis. Fujairah's mountainous landscape is a strong contrast to the other emirates, which are primarily blanketed by desert. But distances are short, and rolling golden sand dunes are close enough for an exhilarating off-road journey. If cliffs and canyons are more your style, travel by 4WD to the Hajar range, along steep and rugged winding tracks, past deep gorges and along terraced hillsides. Another option? The beaches on Fujairah's Gulf of Oman coast are among the UAE's best.

Mumbai (Bombay), India
The home of Bollywood, the seat of the Hindi film industry, Bombay is the glamour capital of India. Bask in the glory of the Gateway of India, the signature mark of the city. Then, make a wish at the Tomb of Haji Ali and identify antique pieces at the Chor Bazaar to take home a bit of the spectacle.
