8 Night Cruise sailing from Hamburg to Reykjavik aboard Fram.
During this voyage we follow the trail of the Vikings to beautiful Edinburgh and the Granite City, Aberdeen before we set course towards the Shetland and Orkney Islands, known for their Viking history. Torshavn on Faroe Islands is the next port of call, and we have the possibility to explore this capital before we head even further north to the "kingdom" of the Vikings - Iceland!
DAY 1 Hamburg, Germany
Located on the shores of the Elbe River, Hamburg's history stretches back 1,200 years. We start our voyage this afternoon.
DAY 2 North Sea
Enjoy the comfort of MS Fram while we cross the North Sea and head towards Scotland. Our expedition team will give interesting lectures about the history and biology of the area we are in.
DAY 3 Leith (Edinburgh), Scotland, UK
After London, Edinburgh is the most visited city in the UK. Explore mysterious winding streets, elegant terraces and an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. From the well-known Edinburgh Castle, you will have a magnificent view of this cosmopolitan city surrounded by beautiful landscape.
DAY 4 Aberdeen, Scotland, UK
The North Sea has always been of importance to this city, formerly due to the China tea trade; today it is the North Sea oil. Step back in time and experience Scottish castles at their best or visit some of the most famous Whisky distilleries, each with their own warm welcome.
DAY 5 Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, UK
Kirkwall is the largest town and the capital of the Orkney Islands, dominated by the famous St. Magnus Cathedral. The first mention of a settlement is in a saga from 1046.
DAY 6 Lerwick, Shetland Islands, UK
Lerwick is a bustling seaport and by far the northernmost town of Scotland. In the surroundings we will find some of Shetland's most attractive scenery and an extraordinary concentration of archaeological sites, including Europe's best-preserved broch (Atlantic roundhouse) and two remarkable Iron Age villages.
DAY 7 Torshavn, Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are a group of 18 islands that lie in the middle of the North Atlantic, halfway between the Shetland Islands and Iceland. Torshavn is one of the smallest capitals in the world. It was founded in the 10th century and might very well be the oldest capital in northern Europe.
DAY 8 At sea
We set course even further north towards our last port of call, Reykjavik. Enjoy our onboard lecture programme, or relax in our spacious observation lounge.
DAY 9 Reykjavik, Iceland
Reykjavik was the first Viking settlement and is today the modern capital of Iceland. The surroundings offer fantastic spots of natural beauty including geysers, mountains, glaciers and geothermal bathing. We will be arriving in Reykjavik around noon.
