Taormina, Sicily
Taormina is a small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. Situated atop a verdant hillside in full view of the blue Mediterranean and mighty Mt. Etna, Taormina is one of the most strikingly beautiful sights in Italy.
Attractions in Taormina are its popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway) on the Ionian sea, the Greek theater with its matchless panorama, and the botanical gardens which are full of exotic plants. The Corso Umberto (main street) is lovely for a stroll and a visit to Castelmola village is recommended for its magnificent views.
