Cephalonia (Kefalonia) is the largest island in the Ionian Sea and sixth in size in Greece. It is located between the islands of Lefkada and Zakynthos and across the Corinthian Gulf, 35 km from mainland Greece and 30 km from the coasts of Peloponnese.

On Cephalonia tourists are drawn to the beautiful blue sea, the golden sandy beaches, the unique caves, the rocky mountains and the traditional settlements. Cephalonia also boasts findings of the Paleolithic era and impressive historical monuments.

Above the small peninsula, in the area of Fanari, stands Argostoli, the capital of the island. Attractions here include the bridge of Drapano, the Koutavos lagoon, the Lighthouse of Agii Theodori and the Cave of Agios Gerasimos.

The island's main town, Lixouri, is peaceful and picturesque and is situated close to the south coast where the best beaches are located.
