Silver Explorer
Silver Explorer

17 Night Cruise sailing from Ushuaia roundtrip aboard Silver Explorer.

Silversea's purpose-built Silver Explorer expedition ship (formerly the Prince Albert II) has been designed specifically for navigating waters in some of the world's most remote destinations, including both of earth's polar regions. A strengthened hull with a Lloyd's Register ice-class notation (1A) for passenger vessels enables Silver Explorer to safely push through ice floes with ease. A fleet of Zodiac boats allows Silversea Expedition guests to visit even the most off-the-beaten path locations and an expert Expedition Team provides insight and understanding to each unforgettable Silver Explorer cruise adventure.

Onboard, savour a convivial cosmopolitan ambience and many special amenities usually found only on larger ships, including a spacious Library with an Internet Cafe, boutique shopping, a full-service spa, beauty salon, fitness centre, sauna and two top-deck whirlpools. Prince Albert II even features live evening entertainment and The Humidor, where connoisseurs can enjoy the finest cigars and cognacs - diversions offered by no other expedition ship.

Highlights of this cruise:

Ushuaia
Situated on the Beagle Strait, Ushuaia is the largest city in Argentine Tierra del Fuego, and arguably the southernmost city in the world. In the past, the town has been a missionary base, penal colony and naval base for the Argentine navy. Ushuaia is now a major tourist town, complete with casinos and nice restaurants, and commonly used as a base for hiking, winter sports and cruises to Antarctica

Founded just over one hundred years ago, this rustic town is situated amidst incredible snowcapped mountains, dramatic waterfalls, massive glaciers, and a forest known for its red foliage. Tierra del Fuego, the "Land of Fire," twelve miles to the west of Ushuaia, is known for its glacial landscape and its national park, which is a bird-watcher's paradise.

Stanley
Just 300 miles northeast of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) are an archipelago with two main islands, East and West Falkland, and 778 smaller islets and rocks. The total land area is 4,700 square miles, the equivalent of half of Wales in the U.K., or the entire U.S. state of Connecticut. Three east-west trending mountain ranges form the jagged backbone of the main islands, with 2,312-foot Mt. Usborne the highest peak. Stanley, the capital on East Falkland, is home to some 1,900 people, about three-fourths of the total population of the island. Other islanders live on scattered sheep ranches and in small settlements-or in the "camp," a term for countryside that was adapted from the Spanish word campo. The Falklands are a wild and unique destination, a sweep of islands where sheep graze peacefully next to penguins.
