32 Night Cruise sailing from Rotterdam roundtrip aboard Rotterdam.
As the sixth ship to bear the name, the ms Rotterdam is the standard-bearer for our fleet of five-star cruise ships. The first Rotterdam set sail in 1872, beginning a Holland America Line tradition of elegant cruising and impeccable service that continues through Rotterdam VI.
Commemorating the history of the Rotterdam ships, fascinating Holland America memorabilia, art and antiques can be found throughout the ship. The collection includes remarkable clocks and time pieces, contemporary art by recognized artists, and antiques that represent the rich seafaring heritage of Holland America Line. A highlight is a beautiful 18th-century ship model carved from bone. The ms Rotterdam ensures you the ultimate onboard experience with her graceful combination of classic cruise ship features and state-of-the-art amenities.
Highlights of this cruise:
Rotterdam
Often called the gateway to Europe, the port city of Rotterdam is full of old-world charm. The harbor offers amazing views and a maze of wharves and canals, along with towering spires make for a beautiful sight. Take a stroll and duck into one of the pubs or eateries along the way.
Lisbon
Lisbon was for many years Europe's main portal of debarkation for the rest of the planet. Ships captained by Portuguese explorers like Bartolomeu Dias, Vasco da Gama, and Ferdinand Magellan skittered across the globe, hauling treasure home and making Lisbon a global capital. So it's appropriate to arrive by ship. Cruise to Lisbon, situated on a wide bay where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic, and the white facades of its ancient neighborhoods lead uphill to the iconic Castelo de São Jorge. Other landmarks include the World Heritage Sites of Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery, both built in Lisbon's native Manueline architectural style.
Funchal
Say you drew a line from Lisbon west to the Azores, another from there southeast to the Canaries, and a third from the Canaries northeast back to Lisbon. You'd have a triangle that would be a slice of geographical heaven, and at its center would be Portugal's Madeira Islands. Madeira's capital, Funchal, is named for the native wild fennel that greeted the first settlers (Christopher Columbus was an early resident) more than five centuries ago. Today, a cruise will reveal a Funchal of red roofs and hibiscus easing gently down the lower slopes of Pico do Arieiro to the ocean, kissed by 60- to 70-degree days all year round.
Santa Cruz
Quiet and inviting, this capital city boasts colorful markets, lush gardens and open-air cafes. Lush green banana plantations give way to pine forests, then a jumbled landscape of volcanic rock. Further afield: black sand beaches and the cable car to the top of 11,000-foot-high Mount Tiede. When Columbus stopped by in 1498, Tiede was erupting, but it's now sedately dormant.
Arrecife
UNESCO has declared Lanzarote a World Biosphere Reserve. Here, fields of melons and grapes contrast with the bleak volcanic expanses of the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya.
Casablanca
From the city of Bogart and Bergman, tour to Rabat, Morocco's serene capital, and to Marrakech, city of souks, storytellers, snake charmers and the famed Koutoubia Minaret.
Copenhagen
The Little Mermaid greets you at the harbor. At its center is Tivoli, whose gardens, lakes and fountains are said to have inspired Walt Disney.
Berlin
Don't miss the opportunity to tour into Berlin, which has visibly flourished since the fall of the Wall in 1989. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Brandenburg Gate and "Checkpoint Charlie" are all here. In the Western sector, browse the lively Kurfurstendamm for snazzy clothing stores, delicate hand-painted porcelain and a snack of beer and bratwurst.
Tallinn
Wander cobblestone alleys beneath turrets and red-tiled roofs in medieval Old Town. Relax near the swan pond in Kadriorg Park. Visit the impressive museum in Baroque Kadriorg Palace.
St Petersburg
Glorious history and art, fanciful palaces, a rich imperial past all here in the city founded by Peter the Great.
Stockholm
Founded as a fortress in the 13th century, Stockholm spans 14 islands and is considered one of the world's most beautiful capitals.
Visby
Big, sandy beaches and breathtaking medieval architecture make this red-roofed island town one of Sweden's most beloved resorts.
