Enjoy the fascination of a cruise on the French rivers Rhone and Saone through one of Europe's most beautiful Countryside with almost innumerable highlights: world famous wine-growing regions such as Cote d' Or, unique Landscapes such as that of Burgundy, the splendid view on the historic towns and monuments. The cruise on your floating hotel is without doubt the best way to savor the matchless French savoir vivre by exploring Provence, a very special corner of Europe.
Highlights of this cruise:
Lyon
LYON is the third largest city in France, a long-established business centre - somewhat staid and very bourgeois, but not without its charms. Foremost of these is gastronomy: there are more restaurants per square metre than anywhere else on earth and the city could form a football team with its superstars of the international chef circuit. It also has a charming old quarter, and all the attractions you would expect of a city of its size (around half a million): a lively night scene and cultural life, including the famous Lyonnais puppets.
Tournus
The quiet small city of Tournus, easily explored on foot. From here, you can select a full day's excursion through the Burgundy wine region visiting medieval Beaune, the grand Clos de Vougeot chateau on the Cocirc;te de Nuits wine route.
Avignon
Avignon is one of the major cities of Provence, in Southern France. It is the main city of the departement of Vaucluse, and is located on the banks of the Rhone river. The city is probably best known for its Palais des Papes (Palace of the Popes), where the Popes lived for much of the 14th century. For centuries, it has also been one of the major artistic centres of France.
Avignon has an immaculately preserved medieval town with endless impressively decorated buildings, ancient churches, chapels and convents, and plenty of places to eat and drink. There is a great shopping area, with pedestrian streets without cars and loads of shops of all kinds. Southeast of the Place de l'Horloge: rue des Marchands, rue Rouge and ajoining streets are full of clothing and other shops.
