Highlights of this cruise:

Dover
Its white cliffs face the European continent at the narrowest part of the English Channel and have long been a semaphore of welcome and farewell. Welcome! Cruise visitors can comb the littoral beneath the great cliffs or explore Dover Castle in town, and journey into London. From its founding by Rome more than 2 millennia ago, the city has become a global center of almost everything: history, theater, art, architecture, literature, sports, business, fashion, and rock and roll. Today, it is the world in microcosm, from the Titians at the National Gallery to the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum to the 300-plus languages you can hear as you walk the city streets.

Oslo
The whole coast of Norway is as frayed as the hem of a much-loved blanket, so it's fitting that the country's capital lies at the head of a fjord. How perfect for a cruise. Oslo is hilly and green - two-thirds of the city is protected forest - and what's human-made is diverse, from the classicist Kunstnernes Hus to the modern Oslo Opera House, winner of the top prize at the 2008 World Architecture Festival. Take a walk through the central city and look and listen. At your feet you'll come across the Ibsen Quotes, an art installation consisting of 69 of the playwright's quotations set in the sidewalks. In the air you may hear music - the city hosts music festivals all summer long.

Stavanger
Cobblestone streets wind past colorful houses in this delightful town. In nearby Lysefjord, be sure to visit oft-photographed Pulpit Rock.

Flam
The Aurlandsfjord would be a magnificent fjord in its own right, with its glassy waters and snow-frosted peaks towering more than 3,000 over the water. What's even more humbling is that the fjord is just an arm of an even longer, more massive one - the Sognefjord. That fjord is the longest in Norway, but your cruise will make the turn south, for Flam. The cliffs crowd ever closer as you near the village and when you get there, it seems there's nowhere to look but up. The town is lovely; the countryside is creased by rivers and waterfalls, and mantled in meadows. Take a ride on the legendary, and steep, Flam Railway.

Geiranger
On the glorious Geirangerfjord, one of Norway's most impressive sights, Gieranger is the picture-perfect fjord town. Nearby, the Seven Sisters Waterfall takes a 5,000-foot plunge.

Tromso
See bearded seals at Polaria and visit Arctic Ocean Cathedral, containing one of the most impressive stained-glass windows in Europe.

Hammerfest
The town of Hammerfest offers a good selection of outdoor activities, including sport fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and boating. Explore the town and marvel at the area's long and proud history (it's been an important fishing and Arctic hunting settlement since the Stone Age).

Trondheim
Founded in AD 997 as a Viking seat of power, Trondheim (then Nidaros ) holds the Nidaros Cathedral, where all Norwegian coronations take place and the crown jewels are kept.

Alesund
This picturesque fishing port at the mouth of Stor Fjord spans two islands and features delightful art nouveau architecture, stone towers, spires and medieval facades.

Bergen
Gateway to fjord country, beautiful Bergen is surrounded by steep, forested mountains and has the lively feel of a university town.
