Kom Ombo is an agricultural town in Egypt famous for the Temple of Kom Ombo. It is situated on the banks of the Nile some 50 km (20 miles) north of Aswan.

The Temple of Kom Ombo is unusual in that it is dedicated to two gods, Horus & Sobek. The temple has two of everything, to accommodate the two gods, and among the reliefs on the walls - mainly from the time of Ptolemy XII - are detailed a set of medical instruments.

Port Location - Cruise boats dock in Aswan on east bank of the Nile, which is approx 290 km's from Abu Simbel. Felucca cruises leave on the Nile from Aswan to the temple of Kom Ombo.

Transport Links - An average of six return flights a day are maintained by Egyptair between Aswan and the Egyptian capital Cairo. One morning flight also exists between Luxor and Aswan.

Egypt's train service which runs along the Nile extends down to Aswan and is a regular and a good travel alternative. Trains between Aswan and Luxor stop in Kom Ombo.

If you are in Hurghada you can catch a bus from there down to Aswan; the trip could take anything from three hours to nine.

Dozens of cruise ships depart from Luxor to Aswan everyday. These can be booked through agents or at the actual ships themselves.
